Stories and Stones Historic Cemetery Tour of Tiger Flowers Cemetery

Please join us for a walking tour of Tiger Flowers Memorial Cemetery, Lakeland’s oldest Black cemetery.

During this tour you will learn more about the history of Lakeland, as told through the stories of some of our past residents. You will also become familiar with common funerary iconography and the meanings behind the stones.

The tour will begin at the south border of the cemetery, adjacent to Lakeview Cemetery.

We will be walking through paved and unpaved areas. Cemetery ground may be uneven. Please walk with caution and wear appropriate shoes. Please use appropriate sun protection and stay hydrated.

The tour will end if lightning is visible or if it begins to rain.

Stories and Stones Historic Cemetery tours will be offered monthly, from October through March. Each month will alternate between a tour of Lakeview, Tiger Flowers and Roselawn Cemeteries. Tours are intended for ages 13 and up.

Parking Information:

Tiger Flowers Cemetery is bordered by Lakeview Cemetery to the south. Please park in Lakeview cemetery. Follow the paved path that goes to the right to park. Park on the paved patch, making sure to pull forward enough to make room for others arriving after you. Please drive with caution in the cemetery.
