Immigrants, The Lost Generation and Mercantile: Polk County’s Earliest Jews

With Dr. Catherine R. Eskin, Associate Professor of English at Florida Southern College

Head Archivist, Temple Emanuel Archive

Eskin’s research on members of The Lost Generation (born 1883-1900) is an attempt to better understand the pioneering generation of Jewish settlers in Polk County. Her presentation will be a cross between a research report and an experiment: how can a researcher discover the “truth” about subjects whom she has never met and for whom there are no direct descendants? In particular, she will discuss how members of this particular generation established lives in America and how they chose to express their ethnic and religious identity in areas only sparsely populated by Jews.

No registration required.
