Special Edition Stories and Stones Tour of Tiger Flowers Cemetery

In honor of Black History Month, this Stories and Stones tour will focus on Lakeland’s historic Black Cemetery, Tiger Flowers Cemetery.

During this tour you will learn more about the history of Lakeland, as told through the stories of the Black community. We will discuss common funerary iconography and the meanings behind the stones.

The tour will begin at the south border of Tiger Flowers Cemetery.

We will be walking through paved and unpaved areas. Cemetery ground may be uneven. Please walk with caution and wear appropriate shoes. Please use appropriate sun protection and stay hydrated.

The tour will end if lightning is visible or if it begins to rain. 

The Stories and Stones tour will be offered on a monthly basis, from October through April. Each month will alternate between a tour of Roselawn Cemetery and a tour of Lakeview and Tiger Flowers Cemeteries. Tours are intended for ages 13 and older.

Parking Information: 

Tiger Flowers Cemetery is located near the intersection of North Ingraham Avenue and East Parker Street. Please enter through the Lakeview Cemetery entrance off of East Parker. Follow the path that curves around to the right. Park along the path, making sure to pull forward enough to make room for others arriving after you. Please drive with caution in the cemetery.
