"The Carpenters Home: Where History Was Built"
with Richard A. Fifer (historian)
The establishment of a retirement home for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America came true with the dedication of the residence hall in 1928. Built on former orange grove grounds near the west side of Lake Gibson, this home remained active until 1976. Approximately 2205 residents lived there in dignity and compassion, a noble experiment as America sought ways to provide proper care for its elderly workers. The structure remains part of Lakeland’s history.
Registration is not required.
